Tracking Clicks

Understand page views, link clicks, and per-block stats to optimize your Surface page.

Page views vs. clicks

Surface tracks two distinct metrics for your page. Understanding the difference helps you make better decisions about your content.

Page views count the number of times someone loads your Surface page. This tells you how much traffic you are getting overall -- how many people are actually arriving at your page from social bios, messages, or anywhere else you have shared your link.

Link clicks count the number of times a visitor taps or clicks on a specific link or block on your page. This tells you what your audience finds most interesting once they land on your page.

Filtering by date range

At the top of the analytics dashboard, you can filter your data by time period. Choose from preset ranges like the last 7 days or 30 days, or set a custom date range to focus on a specific window. This is especially useful when you want to measure the impact of a new link you just added or a promotion you are running.

Per-block click tracking

Every clickable block on your page has its own click count. Scroll down in the analytics dashboard to see a breakdown of clicks by individual block. This makes it easy to spot your top-performing links and identify blocks that may need a better title, description, or position on your page.

Using your data to improve your page

Analytics are most useful when you act on them. Here are a few ways to put your data to work:

  • Move high-performing links higher. If a link near the bottom of your page is getting the most clicks, drag it closer to the top so even more visitors see it.
  • Rework underperforming blocks. A link with very few clicks might need a clearer title or a more compelling description.
  • Track changes over time. After rearranging your page or adding new content, check back in a few days to see if the changes made a difference.
  • Align with campaigns. Use custom date ranges to measure how a specific launch, drop, or promotion performed.
