Creating Your Account

Sign up for Surface and claim your unique handle in under a minute.
Getting started with Surface takes less than a minute. Head to the sign-up page and create your account using one of two methods:
- Email and password -- enter your email address, choose a password, and you are in.
- Social login -- sign up with your existing Google or GitHub account for a one-click experience.
Both options create the same account with the same features. Pick whichever is most convenient for you.
Claim your handle
During sign-up, you will choose a unique handle. This becomes part of your public page URL:
surface.so/u/yourhandle
Your handle is how people find and recognize your page, so choose something memorable.
Tips for picking a good handle
- Keep it short. Shorter handles are easier to type and remember.
- Match your brand. Use the same username you use on other platforms so people can find you consistently.
- Avoid special characters. Stick to letters, numbers, and hyphens for maximum clarity.
- Think long-term. Pick something that will still represent you as your content or business evolves.
If the handle you want is already taken, try adding a short modifier like your location, niche, or initials.
What happens next
Once you complete sign-up, you land directly in the visual builder. This is your workspace for designing your page. No extra setup steps, no configuration screens -- you can start adding blocks and building your page right away.
Your page is private until you choose to publish it, so feel free to experiment.
