Link Blocks

Add clickable links to your Surface page with titles, icons, and tracking.
What is a link block?
A link block is a clickable button on your Surface page that sends visitors to any URL you choose. It is the most fundamental block type -- perfect for directing your audience to your content, social profiles, websites, or anything else you want to share.
Adding a link
Click the + button in the builder and select Link. You will need to fill in two fields:
- Title -- the text visitors see on the button.
- URL -- the destination visitors go to when they click.
Give your link a clear, descriptive title so visitors know exactly where it leads before they click.
Setting a thumbnail or icon
Each link can display an icon next to its title. By default, Surface shows the favicon of the destination website. If you prefer a different look, you can set a custom icon through the link's settings.
Icons help visitors quickly recognize where a link goes, especially when you have several links on your page.
Primary styling
You can mark any link as Primary to give it bold, emphasized styling. Primary links stand out from the rest, making them ideal for your most important destination -- like your latest video, your online store, or a time-sensitive promotion.
Use primary styling sparingly. When everything is emphasized, nothing stands out.
UTM tracking parameters
If you want to track where your traffic comes from, you can add UTM parameters to any link. Surface supports four UTM fields:
- Source -- identifies where the traffic originates (e.g., "surface").
- Medium -- describes the marketing medium (e.g., "bio-link").
- Campaign -- names the specific campaign (e.g., "spring-sale").
- Content -- differentiates between links in the same campaign.
These parameters are appended to your URL automatically. You can view the resulting traffic data in your analytics tool of choice.
How links appear on your page
On your published page, link blocks display as full-width buttons with your title and icon. Visitors tap or click to navigate directly to the destination. Links open in a new tab so visitors can easily return to your page.
